Project Areas
First Peoples will make grants in the following project areas:
- Defense of Indigenous homelands
- Indigenous stewardship of land and natural resources
- Redressing evictions
- Evicted communities to return to homelands
- Organizational start-up costs for Indigenous-led organizations
- Protection and promotion/honoring of Indigenous knowledge
- Mapping Indigenous homelands
- Co-management of land and resources with others
- Learning exchanges to support Indigenous management and share best practices
- Technology to empower Indigenous communities
- Advocacy
What we do not fund
First Peoples does not currently provide funding for the following:
- Individual applicants
- School applications
- College or university scholarships
- Legal research
- Projects that do not directly relate to Indigenous communities
- Organizations or projects that do not directly involve or support Indigenous Peoples in their work
- Disaster relief
- Conference fees
- Political lobbying
- Fundraising campaigns
- Endowments
- Deficit financing
- Missionary projects
- Project activities completed within the United States
- Travel to or from the United States
Submitting Your Application
First Peoples prefers to receive funding requests electronically. You may send your completed application to grants@firstpeoplesworldwide.org. If you are unable to submit via this method, you may fax your application to (540) 899-6501 or send your application via postal service or other express delivery courier to:
