Internships
First Peoples periodically provides unpaid internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students. These competitive internships are opportunities to learn more about our work in the field of community economic development, Indigenous biodiversity management, banking and finance, and other areas. Internships with First Peoples Worldwide provide hands-on opportunities for research that makes a difference and experience in building relationships in Indigenous communities. Interns will not simply make copies and file papers; they will be asked to perform complex research and writing tasks.
Intern Responsibilities:
Research
Searching for source materials
Data collection
Analyzing and summarizing research materials
Literature reviews
Compiling bibliographies
Proofreading and editing
Verifying quotations and references
Administrative
Filing
Data entry
Preparation of mailings
Library cataloguing
Qualifications – All interns must have:
An interest in policy, research, and issues that affect Indigenous Peoples
Excellent writing and communication skills
Strong computer skills
Applicants should:
Be currently pursuing a degree on a full-time basis as either a junior, senior, or graduate student at the time the internship begins
Be in good academic standing
Students in the following fields of study are preferred:
Native American Studies
Sociology
Political Science
Geography
Law
Anthropology
Environmental Studies
Economics
Library Science
Interns must commit to work the duration of either the full quarter or semester, depending upon the academic structure and schedule of their home institution. Scheduled hours and workdays will be negotiated with your supervisor.
All interns are required to complete and submit a comprehensive assessment of their experience at First Peoples Worldwide upon completion of their internship.

A cover letter and résumé [may use up to five (5) pages] which address:
Why you are applying for an internship at First Peoples
How an internship at First Peoples relates to your academic goals and professional aspirations
What makes you a strong candidate for this program
What you hope to learn as a result of this work experience
The ability to commit to 20 hours per week to the internship (if interning during the fall or spring semester you must be able to commit six hours per week).
Name, address, phone, and e-mail address of your faculty advisor (if seeking credit) and your home institution (whether seeking credit or not)
Emergency contact information
A writing sample (a class paper or other sample of written work)
The names and phone numbers of two (2) references
Your desired start date
