Programs
The programs of First Peoples Worldwide are grounded in the belief that assets are the building blocks of sustainable prosperity. As occupants and stewards of their customary lands, Indigenous Peoples own substantial assets. But in many cases, they lack the necessary authority and control to benefit from them, or even to protect them from others. They must make decisions that restore their authority and control over assets, and they must build the capacities to carry out these decisions. In the progression and interplay of assets, decisions, and capacities, sustainable asset-based economic development proves to be a holistic process that takes into account the political, social, cultural, and environmental variables of the community. Notwithstanding local variables, Indigenous economic solutions demonstrate a voice, a presence, and practices that have begun to pervade the world stage of dominant institutional systems, in part through FPW advocacy. First Peoples Worldwide maintains three core programs that serve the desire of Indigenous Peoples to protect their productive assets: Keepers of the Earth Program and Fund, Corporate Engagement, and Advocacy.
