Grantee Stories
In 2007, First Peoples Worldwide made its first grants through the Keepers of the Earth Fund. Inspired by her visits to San communities in Botswana in 1997, Rebecca Adamson founded First Peoples Worldwide as an international Indigenous-led organization. Nearly a decade later in 2006, the goals of the Keepers of the Earth Program and Fund were shaped by representatives of Indigenous communities at a roundtable meeting in Belize City, Belize. The first grants from the Keepers of the Earth Fund were awarded made the following year in 2007.
